Transfer rules
- Your domain must have been registered more than 60 days ago.
- Your domain must have at least 21 days left before it is due for renewal (some registrars have less severe restrictions so it might be worth trying a transfer if you are within 21 days of expiry).
- Your domain name must not have expired.
- Your domain name must not be locked (ask your current registrar to unlock it if it is).
What happens if the transfer fails?
If the transfer fails we will refund your transfer fee less 10% to cover our credit card processing and other handling costs. However, if you follow the instructions on this page the chances of a failure will be significantly reduced.

- .ca
-
Congratulations on your decision to move forward with your business and transfer your existing .ca domain name to us.
Please note that there is no ownership changes allowed within .ca transfer
Please note, different registrars have different rules regarding when a domain name can be transferred. We have collated these rules by looking at the "worst case" policies across all of the major registrars. Please make sure your domain complies with the rules above before you attempt to transfer it.
Transfer fees
Some registrars charge for domain transfers. We have no control over this. You should check with your current registrar before submitting your transfer request to make sure they are not going to charge you for leaving.
Domain renewal fees
You will be responsible for all renewal fees when they fall due, even if the domain is due to expire in a few days time.
Getting the free services
Once the transfer is complete you can contact us and we will add our free web hosting and email service to your domain if you require them.
Other notes
Are you the admin contact?
To transfer a domain you must be listed as its administrative contact. This is necessary because the admin contact will be asked to approve the transfer. If you are not listed you will never receive the transfer request email. Half of all transfer failures are due to the customer thinking they are the admin contact when they are not. You can check this by doing a whois lookup.
Detagged UK domains
If your domain name has been detagged by the previous registrar but you are listed as the registrant you will need to pay Nominet (the .uk registry) £15 (+ VAT) to make us your registration agent. This is in addition to our fees. You will find further instructions on Nominet's web site.
EPP Authorisation Code
From October 2006 all domain names in .com / .net / .biz / .info and .us require a special authorisation code in order to complete the transfer process (also known as an "Auth Code"). This is obtained from your current registrar who is required to provide this under his contract with the registry. Usually this is accessible from their domain control panel. If in doubt contact your registrar to get this code. The code is usually valid for five days so you must start the transfer with us as soon as you get the code.
