How do I manage my domains?

To change name servers, or manage other aspects of your domain name, please log into CORE, and click on “Domains” on the top navigation bar. From here, you can see all your domains with expiry dates, renewal options, and more. You can also register new domains, or transfer new ones to Nameroute.

How do I renew my domain?

You can renew all domain and hosting services by logging into CORE and clicking on “Renewals” on the top navigation bar. If you have any services which require renewal, they will be present in your Dashboard, also accessible from the top navigation bar. If you are having any problems renewing, please go to our Helpdesk, where one of the support team members will assist you.

How do I make a complain?

We aim to provide all our customers with a high level of service. However, if for any reason you are not satisfied with the service that you have received from us, please contact us via a helpdesk ticket, and a senior member of management will investigate and respond to your complaint. We aim to respond to all complaints within 7 days. Please raise a ticket via our helpdesk and ask for it to be escalated, and this will be done by the team immediately.

How do I change name servers, or move to another web host?

Just log into CORE, click on “Domains” on the top navigation bar. You will see a list of all your domain names. Click the domain you wish to modify, and click the “Modify” button at the top of the page. Make changes to your name servers, and continue. Changes made on this page are completed in real time.

How can I get a list of all the domains I own?

All domains you have registered through us are listed in CORE. This can be accessed by logging into CORE and clicking on “Domains” on the top navigation bar. You can control all aspects of the domain through CORE.

How do I recover my lost password?

For cPanel passwords, log into CORE, click on “Domains”, and click the domain name in question. Click on “Reset Password”, and the password will be emailed to the email address on file.

If you have lost your CORE password, go to the password reset page of CORE, enter your email address and your password will be emailed to you automatically.

How do I transfer a domain away from you?

Log into CORE, click on “Domains”, and click the domain name in question. Once you click on “Transfer Away”, confirm you wish to make the transfer, and then we will email you further instructions.

How do I transfer a domain to you?

Please order the domain through CORE and follow the instructions. There is no charge for transferring .uk domains. Other extensions require a one year renewal fee to be paid at the time of transfer.

Do you offer “domain privacy” services?

Many registrars provide services that they call “domain privacy”. In reality, they own the domain name and rent it back to you. There are a number of obvious problems with this:

• If the registrar goes out of business you may struggle to get the domain name back
• The registrar will still provide your contact details to the police and other law enforcement agencies
• The registrar may cancel the privacy service if they get complaints about your online activities
• Some domain registries (including the .us registry) do not permit privacy services and others will not allow the domain to be transferred back to you if you change your mind later

If you do not want your details provided in the WHOIS results you have a few choices which avoid some of these pitfalls:

• Register a .uk domain and you can opt out of the WHOIS if your domain is not being used for any money making or business purpose
• Register a .nu domain as their WHOIS does not return the registrant details

We could make a lot of money from providing privacy services but we will not do it. The need for privacy services is, in our opinion, overstated. The WHOIS servers can not be flicked through from one domain to another — you need to know what domain name you are looking up and have a reason to look it up. WHOIS provides a level of accountability for online activities, which helps to prevent some abuses and does help the police to track down lawbreakers quickly.

Can I use my domain with a social networking site like Bebo, Myspace or Facebook?

Yes. Once your domain name is registered you can redirect it to a page on any of the social networking sites so you can give people your domain address which will be easier to remember. You will also get an email account free with the domain name to give you a memorable matching email address.

How can I find a short domain name?

Most registries do not allow domains of less than three characters before the extension. However, .gd, .ms, .vg and .tc do allow this and there are still some available. You can search for available ones here.

Why do the prices of domain names vary?

Each registry has a different fee and a different minimum number of years that they allow domains to be registered for. We take their charges and add a fixed percentage on top, then round up or down to the nearest of our price points. This avoids us having a confusing range of prices differing by a small amount. Our prices also include VAT, unlike most UK domain name registration companies. Our price list shows the price per year even if the minimum for an extension is two years. This allows you to compare the real cost of registration for each domain type.

What are restricted extensions?

Most of the domain name extensions we supply can be registered by anyone for any purpose but a few of them have restrictions. The most common restriction is geographical. For example, .ca domains can only be registered by people in Canada and .de by people in Germany. Other extensions have business type restrictions. For example, .ltd.uk domains can only be registered by UK limited companies and .me.uk by individuals for personal, not business, use.

Why do you offer so many different domain extensions?

There are many domain extensions available. The most common are .com and .co.uk, but because most of the easy to remember ones are already registered we offer a range of alternative extensions like .biz, .info, .tv, or .cc.

Can I get more email accounts or more web space?

Yes, we offer Nameroute customers a large introductory discount on a full hosting account with our web hosting service Hostroute. This offer can be accessed through CORE.

How do I use these services?

Most of them are accessed through our online control panel. You will find full instructions in our support manual. We also send a summary of the main points by email when you register a domain name.

What do you provide with domain names?

There is no point having a domain name on its own. You need services to make it work so we provide free with each domain name:

1. 10 MB of basic web space
2. Website builder
3. FTP access, so you can upload from a web design program
4. POP3 and web-based email account
5. Email forwarding so that mail addressed to your domain gets sent on to your existing email address
6. Web forwarding so you can forward your domain to an existing web site or a page on Myspace, Bebo, etc.
7. Anti spam filtering
8. Control Panel with useful tools

What is a domain name and why would I want one?

A domain name maps the numerical address of a server on the Internet with an easy to remember name which can be used in an email address or as the address of a web site. If you own a domain name your web site and email address will not have to change for as long as you pay the domain renewal fee. You can change ISP or web host and your web site and email will still work at the same address as before.

A domain name can provide a business, organisation or individual with a recognisable online identity. It can be redirected to your existing web site or a page on a social networking site like Myspace, Facebook or Bebo.
